You have already made an AI image and video. Now give the same idea a sound
If you have just made your first AI video, this may sound familiar: next, the video needs its own soundscape. Perhaps you have also heard a short AI song online and wondered how it was made. A music generator creates a complete song lasting a few minutes, with or without lyrics, from a single text description. Unlike an image or video , a music prompt also needs a lyrical theme if you want vocals.
Start with a fictional subject
A good first experiment is a short song about a fictional situation or character. This helps you learn to describe the mood, genre and lyrical theme in the same text.
Your first song in four steps
- 1
Describe the mood and genre
Describe the mood of the song and its genre, such as calm acoustic music or energetic synthwave. These two words have the greatest influence on the result.
- 2
Add a simple lyrical theme
In the same text, add a brief lyrical theme: what the song is about, or which fictional character it tells a story about. The service writes the lyrics automatically based on the theme. Many music generators, including Suno, also let you write all the lyrics yourself in a separate mode.
- 3
Mention the instruments, not the length
Name one or two main instruments in the text, such as acoustic guitar and piano. You do not choose the length of the song in the prompt text. In most music generators, including Suno, the length is selected in the service settings, either automatically or with a separate length control depending on your account. If needed, you can extend the result later using the service’s own tool.
- 4
Listen and assess
Compare the song with what you imagined: do the mood, tempo and instruments work together? If something is off, change just one thing next time: the style, lyrical theme or instrument.
Try this
Each example shows a different aspect of what a music description controls: mood and genre, specific instruments or the lyrical theme. All three use fictional names and characters and do not ask for the style of a real artist. In music, this is as important a boundary as excluding people and text from images and videos.
Practice prompt: mood and instruments
A calm instrumental piece about fictional morning mist over a lake, soft piano and a quiet string section, slow tempo, a wistful but warm mood, no lyrics.
Compatible with: Your chosen music generator
Second practice prompt: an energetic genre
An energetic synthwave track about a fictional night-time drive through a neon-lit city, pulsing bass, retro synthesizers, a steady danceable beat, no lyrics.
Compatible with: Your chosen music generator
Third practice prompt: a lyrical theme
A warm acoustic song with lyrics about a fictional little corner café and how its aroma greets each morning, a calm tempo, a warm female voice, guitar and light percussion in the background.
Compatible with: Your chosen music generator
From a song request to a draft you can assess
A common request:
Make a great song about this subject.
Try asking this instead:
A calm instrumental piece about a fictional winter morning in a small village, soft piano and a quiet string section, slow tempo, a wistful but warm mood, no lyrics.
Mood, genre and instruments give the model more direction than a general request for a great song. In music, these details are what shape the result. To make sure you get an instrumental version without vocals, use the service’s Instrumental switch instead of relying on the text. Mentioning it in the text alone is not always enough.
Revise the same song
The same principle applies to music as to images and videos: a single, limited change is the best way to see the effect of that one thing. Request the same subject and mood again, but change only one thing, such as the tempo.
Adjust the tempo
Keep the same subject, mood and instruments as in the previous song. Make the tempo clearly faster and otherwise keep the arrangement the same.
The result is a new version based on the same description, rather than an edit to the old file. Listen to it just as carefully as the first one. If you later want to change just one section, such as the chorus, without recreating the whole song, many services offer a separate editing tool on their paid plans.
When you ask for someone else’s style
Describe the style instead of naming an artist
If you ask for a song “in the style of a famous artist”, the result may resemble their actual work too closely. This differs from describing a general genre, such as “acoustic indie pop”. Describe the style and mood instead of naming a real artist or band. Suno’s terms, for example, also prohibit content that falsely represents its creator as someone other than you. Commercial use also depends on your account. Suno’s free plan, for example, allows only personal use of the results, while commercial release requires a paid plan and an output downloaded through a channel approved by the service. Always check your chosen service’s terms before publishing or using the result commercially.
Once you know the basics
Next, you can write all the lyrics yourself. Many music generators, such as Suno in Custom mode, let you paste your own lyrics into a separate field instead of using automatic lyrics. The service arranges the music around your lyrics, and the lines you wrote yourself remain your own words.

Write a music prompt that stays within the material
Write your own prompt for each round first. The hint and assessment criteria become available only after your own attempt or after you choose “I cannot do this yet”. Use only the information about map projections provided in the material as background.
The prompts you write stay only in this browser tab. They are not sent to AI Licenses’ server or to analytics.
Question 1/3
Question 1/3
Write a prompt for an instrumental AI music piece inspired by the map material’s distortion. For this exercise, choose ambient or experimental electronic music, a calm, floating or stretching mood, and at least one instrument with a sound or pitch that can bend, such as a synthesizer, strings or theremin. Avoid a march, a punchy drum kit and an aggressive or boisterous mood. These are creative choices for this exercise, not rules implied by the map material. Do not put the duration in the prompt.
Use the practice activity in your own AI service (optional)
Change a word in the style. Listen to the difference.
The style and lyrical theme guide the song, but few people get a perfect result on the first try. Make one song, then change one thing: the tempo, an instrument or the lyrics. Compare the results. The difference teaches you more than a long set of instructions.
