AI for entrepreneurs — a practical guide

Try AI in your everyday business with one concrete drafting task, and check the result before using it.

Estimated time
About 12 min

As a business owner, start with a draft you can assess yourself

This time, you will write a service description for a fictional bicycle repair shop and a payment reminder for a customer, ask for a revision, and check the result yourself.

Your goal for this session

Draft something about a general business topic, ask for a refinement, and decide for yourself which parts of the text are usable.

Try your first business task

  1. 1

    Choose a low-risk task

Try an outline for a general social media post, headings for a service description, or a task list for your working day. Do not start with a customer case or a contract.

  2. 2

    Use fictional or public information

Replace names, prices, customer figures and other identifiers with placeholders. Also check which tools your business or customers approve.

  3. 3

Ask for a draft with explicit assumptions

Specify the audience, goal, tone and format. Ask the AI to separate facts, assumptions and items you need to check. Copy the request below as it stands for your first attempt.

  4. 4

    Check before publishing or deciding

Verify facts, prices, offers, promises, rights and tone before sending or publishing the text.

Two practical business experiments

Service description for a bicycle repair shop

Create a structure with three headings and short text for a fictional bicycle repair shop website. The business is called Pyöräkorjaamo Rengas, is located in Tampere, and offers bicycle servicing, tyre changes and brake adjustments. The target audience is adult cyclists. Do not invent prices, promises, customer testimonials or certifications.

Draft payment reminder

Write a polite but clear payment reminder to a fictional customer whose invoice is overdue. Use placeholders for the invoice number, amount and original due date. Do not mention late-payment interest, collection fees or other consequences, because you do not know what this particular customer’s contract says about them. Ask the customer to pay within a week or get in touch if anything is unclear.

Continue the same conversation and check the result

Read the payment reminder you just wrote again. Check whether late-payment interest, collection fees or other consequences slipped in, even though I asked you to leave them out. If so, remove them and replace them with a neutral request to get in touch if payment is delayed further. Keep the placeholders, other content and tone unchanged.

Improve your request by stating what must not be invented

Service appointment confirmation without invented terms

A common request:

Write a service appointment confirmation for a customer.

Write a short confirmation message to a customer of Pyöräkorjaamo Rengas. Use only these confirmed details: the appointment is on Thursday at 10 am, the service covers the chain and gears, and the bicycle can be collected after 4 pm the same day. Do not invent a price, additional work, change policy or any other terms. If a detail needs clarification, ask the customer to call the repair shop rather than assuming it can be changed.

Specifying the recipient and confirmed details, and prohibiting added prices or terms, turns a general request into a message you can send almost as it stands.

When you move on to your own business

Use a tool approved by your business and leave out customer records, contracts, invoices and other confidential information.

Once you know the basics

Create a short use-case card for each recurring task: goal, approved tool, permitted material, prohibited material, checklist and approver.

Request only the supplied facts, and correct any additions

Write your own request first. The hint and assessment criteria appear only after your first answer or after you select "I don’t know yet". In both rounds, use only the information in the reference material as context.

Use only the supplied material in this exercise, not your own business or customer information. Your answers appear only in this browser tab and are not saved on the AI Licenses server.

Question 1/2

Question 1/2

Imagine you want the AI to write a three-sentence summary of the material above for your company newsletter. Write one request that states the task, limits the context to the information in the material, and prohibits adding any new claims.

Use the practice activity in your own AI service (optional)

Give it the facts. See whether it still invents something.

As a business owner, you are responsible for what you promise customers. Give the AI only confirmed information and see whether it sticks to it.

Format
Posts first, missing information separately

Write three short social media posts using the confirmed information below. Do not add any claim, price, guarantee or customer experience that is not on the list. At the end, note separately if you think any post needed information you were not given. Confirmed information: home bakery, open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm, gluten-free range, orders through the website, located in Vantaa.

The information in this exercise is fictional. When you move on to your own business, gather the confirmed facts yourself first.

Open ChatGPT (opens in a new tab)

Check every claim before sending: Read the response and compare it with the information you provided. If a claim, price or promise is not on the list, remove it before using the text in real life.
