Turn a hobby idea into your first experiment

Starting a hobby often falls through because the idea is too big: you feel you need to buy equipment, learn everything and find the perfect time. AI can help you scale an idea down to one experiment that fits your time, budget and the equipment you have now.

Your goal for this session

You will plan a fictional 45-minute photography walk. You will get a preparation checklist, one goal and a way to assess what worked afterwards.

Build a starting plan you can follow

  1. 1

Choose one thing that interests you

Do not plan the entire hobby. Choose a first experiment, such as a photography walk, a drawing session or a new recipe.

  2. 2

    Set the limits

Give your available time, budget and equipment, and say whether you are a beginner. These limits make the suggestion useful.

  3. 3

Ask for a sequence of steps

Ask for preparation first, then the activity itself and finally a small way to assess success. This gives you a plan rather than a pile of ideas.

  4. 4

    Make the plan your own

Choose one part that suits you and ask the AI to change only that part. Start small and decide for yourself how to continue.

A photography walk in 45 minutes

Plan my first photography walk as a beginner. I have 45 minutes, will use my phone camera, do not want to buy equipment and will walk in my own neighbourhood. Create three sections: before setting off, three photography tasks for the walk and a five-minute review at the end. Do not suggest an exact route or ask for my home address. Make the tasks something I can assess for myself.

Follow-up: make the first step easier

Adapt the previous photography walk for a rainy day and shorten it to just 20 minutes. Keep one photography task and the review at the end. Do not add purchases or specialist equipment.

Try the same approach with another hobby

A paper collage in two hours

Plan a two-hour paper collage activity for a beginner. The available supplies are scissors, glue, a pencil and magazines already at home. The budget is zero euros. Divide the work into four stages and finish by suggesting two uses for the finished piece. Do not add supplies that were not mentioned.

A board game evening with friends

Create a two-hour programme for a board game evening for four adults. The players know each other but do not know the chosen game. Suggest a five-minute explanation of the rules at the start, one break and a short way to gather feedback at the end. Do not choose a specific game or invent its rules.

From a wish to a first experiment

A common request:

Plan a new hobby for me.

Suggest three hobby experiments I can do alone in 45 minutes without buying anything new. I am a beginner and want one question at the end to help me assess what felt right for me. For each experiment, give only the equipment needed, three steps and one idea for continuing.

Time, equipment, skill level and a clear structure narrow the idea down to an experiment you can actually start.

Once you know the basics

Keep a short hobby journal: what worked, what felt difficult and what you want to try next. Include these observations in your next request to make the next experiment more suited to you.

Compare two versions and change only one thing

Write your own request first. The hint and assessment criteria become available only after your own attempt or after choosing "I cannot do this yet". Change only one thing at a time in each request.

Use only the fictional material provided in this exercise, rather than your own hobby plan or other personal information. Your written answers appear only in this browser tab and are not saved on AI Licenses' server.

Question 1/3

Question 1/3

The material below explains ocean salinity. Imagine AI has just explained it in one long response. Write a request for a second version: no more than three sentences, the same factual content and no new information. Include a concrete example of an addition that is not allowed, and state that only the length may change.

Change one thing in the plan and compare

Continue the hobby plan you made in the guide. Choose one change, create a version you can compare with the original and use your own observations to decide what to try next.

Your own hobby experiment · about 5 min

What will change in the plan?

How the request is built

Goal
The original and a shorter version of the same experiment
Scope
Only the available time changes
Format
A side-by-side comparison and three observation questions
Material
Your own hobby plan from the guide

Help me compare one change in my hobby experiment. First ask me to paste my current plan. After I reply, make a second version with half the available time, keeping the goal, equipment and skill level the same. Show the original and revised versions side by side. Finish with three observation questions that I will answer only after trying it myself. Do not invent results for me.

This exercise also works with other conversational assistants. Copy the request first.

Keep control of the comparison: The comparison describes only your own plan and assessment. AI cannot know in advance which version will suit you better. Only your own observations will tell you.
